Thunder

A flash of lightning,
Then a zap of thunder

Edge of clouds dyed into yellow
Hanging onto massive trees

When the rain glittered like silk threads over the sunset
Little birds started singing

As if they were celebrating

What a romantic moment I saw

This is…beautiful

Hot knives and stoned competition

My friend Alex told me about his MJ smoking experience in his home town, Halifax. According to him, hash is more common in the east than the actual herb. So that the most common way of smoking hash is “hot knife method”.

Alex: “You can tell who’s got most stoned last night, by the look of their lips”

Junko: “??????”

Alex: “When kids are too stoned, they tend to get knives too close to the face, and burn their lips in a shape of X.”

miffy

… I thought that would be too stupid, but changed my mind when I got stoned the other night.

About E-J Cultual Dictionary

The purpose of this dictionary is to introduce Japanese culture through language. Not like the other languages, Japanese has tons of unspoken words between the sentences that is somewhat expected to be guessed by listeners.

Yes, it is tough, but since Japanese people value the ability to get ten things out of one word so much, this page will help those who are really interested in understanding Japanese culture.

I use some reliable sources, but basically the definitions here are my own judgement.

OK, give me your questions!

“Shoganai” - no help

Shoganai, yes, we Japanese say it a lot.
It’s translated as “no help” but also used as “it meant to be”. Because “things happen where you have no control over them” is one of Japanese ways of seeing life. It seems very subservient, however, this is also a concept that everything in this world has souls, consciousness and meanings of existence. Even if you are feeling helpless, you are still playing your role that is nessesary in the world around you. - So I think “shoganai” is a beautiful word to lead you to the next step.
